25 March 2024 - A Press Information Bureau (PIB) report recently released stated that India's mineral production from mining and quarrying increased 5.9% in the previous year. The nation generated more than 99.8 million tonnes of coal during that time due to an increase in the demand for electricity. The second-biggest coal consumer in the world, India produced record amounts of coal-fired energy in January as a result of power generation companies not significantly reducing their usage of coal and other fossil fuels due to the growing demand for air cooling. Labour Rights in India
The Labour Rights Index of India reveals a composite score of 65, indicating limited access to decent work for its citizens. India's population stood at approximately 1.36 billion in 2019, with around 500 million people involved in its labour force.
While India scores an 80 on fair wages, it lags behind countries like Canada, Denmark, and Brazil in this regard. However, India scores the highest in terms of decent working hours. The total fertility rate is around 2.2, and the parameter of 'maternity at work' receives a high score of 80.
Despite decent working hours, India faces challenges in ensuring fair treatment, scoring only 20/100 on this parameter. Similarly, laws regarding trade unions are poor (25/100), there is limited employment security (40/100) and labour laws do not adequately account for family responsibilities (50/100). India has, however, made progress in Social Protection for its workers, with a score of 60 in this category. The country has implemented several social security schemes, including the Employees’ Provident Fund, and the National Pension Scheme.

Highest salary structural-metal preparers and erectors at 20 years of experience: ₹28,692 to ₹1,33,361 per month
27-Mar-2024 - After 25 years of work experience, structural-metal preparers and erectors earn a monthly wage that ranges from ₹29,154 to ₹1,14,516. On the whole, workers in this occupation feel in between satisfied and dissatisfied about their job. This feeling is shared by 32% of the workers in this occupation. This is made clear in research by Paycheck.in, conducted in 2024.

Maternity Leave in India

A woman with two or more kids is only allowed 12 weeks of maternity leave and six weeks of prenatal leave. The Act also provides leave for adoption and commissioning mothers.
