Senior medical teachers to get wages according to Sixth Pay Commission

The Mumbai Government on 21 August, 2009 assured senior medical teachers that they would be paid wages at revised rates in accordance with the UGC's recommendation for the Sixth Pay Commission.

The announcement was made as the senior medical teachers, belonging to the Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, protested against the non-implementation of the UGC recommendation. They did this by taking a mass casual leave on 20th August, 2009. Though they kept themselves away from work for the day, they were available for emergency duties.

A senior official of the Department of Medical Education and Research stated that, though the government was ready to grant the doctors' demands, it was trying to work out a joint plan for all teachers, especially those in other universities. He also added that once the common formula is worked out, they would make an announcement.
