Agriculture, the primary sector of employment in this country that employs 60% of the workforce has lost 14 mn jobs from 2004-05 to 2009-10. Out of these jobs 5 mn have been lost to the manufacturing sector. Employment in electricity, gas and water supply has also decreased from 13 mn to 1.25 mn during this period. While employment in non-manufacturing sector has increased from 20.84 mn to 29.96 million. These statistics have been estimated by the National Development Council.
