In a move to encourage teachers to achieve higher degrees, Bengal’s state governement has announced that it will introduce the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) November onwards. It will be applicable to all educators holding a Masters Degree teaching at governement sponsored colleges and universities, who wish to pursue MPHIL or PHD. The educator will get an additional amount over and above the usual salary. This move has however attracted criticism from teacher’s association as they believe it will lead to inconsistency in packages of teachers that were already revised in 2006.
