An indefinite strike by Joint Council of Bus Syndicate, one of the largest bus operators demanding a hike in fares has bought Bengal to an almost standstill. This demand is based on the recent fuel hike. The situation has affected 40 lakh commuters as 35000 buses were off roads. The government has responded that this strike and its demands amount to blackmailing.
