The Companies Bill makes it mandatory for companies to contribute 2% of their net profits to the society. Many companies such as DELL, Godrej, Cognizant, Maruti Suzuki, IBM, Bharti Airtel , etc. are now engaging their employees to volunteer. This has not only resulted in greater awareness and sensitivity in employees, but has also increased their productivity levels at work. Volunteering activities range from educating children to issues like sustainability of the environment. Cognizant found that 57% if Outreach employees have improved productivity due to volunteering and 82.4% had higher social awareness and the desire to help society and bring welfare.
