January-December 15, 2012 has seen a jobs generation of 5.3 lakhs, a plummet of 21% from 2011’s statistics on new job creation. 2.8 lakh jobs were created in the first half of the year. Mumbai contributed to 77000 jobs, Bangalore led to over 75000 jobs, Chennai created 44000 jobs and Kolkata led to a mere 25000 jobs. IT has led to 2.1 lakh new jobs, followed by education and academics at 34500 jobs, insurance generated 27100 jobs, banking 24500, automobile at 22890, financial services at 22500, manufacturing at 20400, engineering at 18650, hospitality at 16100 and IT hardware at 15600.
