In response to an advertisement by the Department of Primary Education for receiving applications to fill up the total 6,500 vacancies of maths teachers, only 5,646 responses were received from candidates eligible for the job. The advertisement was made to solve the acute shortage of mathematics teachers in government-run and grant-in-aid schools across Gujarat.
