The Minister for Labour and Employment, Shri Oscar Fernandes has chaired the145 the meeting of ESI Corportaion. Number of Insured Persons covered under the ESI Scheme has gone up from 1.01 crore in 2006-07 to nearly 1.21 crore in 2007-08. This is an increase of nearly 20% and is the largest increase in coverage in one year in the history of the Corporation.
In a meeting he said that the number of insured women has also shown an increase from nearly 18 lakh as on 31st March, 2007 to over 20 lakh at the end of March this year. He also said that the total number of beneficiaries under the Scheme has also increased by over 74 lakh from 3.94 crore at the end of 2006-07 to over 4.68 crore in March this year.
