Leaders such as Lalu Prasad Yadav, N Chandrababu Naidu and Hanumantha Rao have put forward demands to secure OBCs quota in job promotions. The OBC Forum have submitted a formal demand to the Prime Minister. The leadership though has acceded to the reality that the SC/ST communities’ circumstances are worse than OBCs’ and that a quota for them is of greater priority. The personnel ministry has told parliament that there are no provisions in the constitution to provide quota for promotion to OBCs and that the Centre was not considering this demand.
